Individual Attorney Membership

Who is eligible?

  • Any attorney licensed to practice in Maine who is not employed by or affiliated with a law firm of two or more attorneys qualifies for an Individual Attorney Membership. Put another way, Individual Attorney Memberships are for sole practitioners in Maine.

How does it work?

  • Remote Services. Just call or email the library to request electronic delivery of materials and documents, such as legislative histories, AI-assisted research, or scanned copies from our print collection.

  • In-Person Services. Show your business card or provide your Maine bar number to use the notary service, attend members-only events and programs, or take advantage of other in-person services.

  • Borrowing materials. Borrow materials from the library’s print collection using the email system described in the library’s Borrowing Procedure.

  • Representative. A member may have a representative—such as an administrative assistant, paralegal, or firm librarian—request services on the member’s behalf.

What is the cost?

  • The membership term is October 1 to September 30.

  • Membership dues are $200 per membership term.

  • Memberships beginning after April 1 are $100 for the remainder of the membership term.

  • Memberships may be renewed beginning September 1.

  • The access card fee is $25 per membership term.

  • Access cards are valid only for the membership term in which they are issued and must be renewed for continued access in subsequent membership terms. Access card fees are not prorated.
